On February 20th, we held a memorable reception in honor of our loyal 50/20 Club members and major donors. Our guests enjoyed a lavish array of appetizers and beverages at the prestigious John Bentley’s restaurant, located in Redwood City. Some of the highlights of the evening were the special welcomes from Mike Scanlon, Board President and Paul Scannell, Board Treasurer, who spoke about the importance of our mission and encouraged everyone to enroll just one club member.

It was my great privilege to thank our members for their loyalty, as well as to honor our 2013 and 2014 Service League 50/20 Star of Hope Award recipients; Lee Michelson, CEO of Sequoia Healthcare Foundation and John Bentley, Proprietor and Chef of John Bentleys Restaurant. They also received Congressional Recognition for their outstanding and invaluable service to the community from Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, who was our honored guest speaker, as well as a longtime 50/20 Club member. I had the pleasure of acknowledging her tireless efforts and dedication to the community and her loyalty in helping us to carry out our mission to protect our community by rebuilding lives.

Congresswoman Eshoo’s words were thoughtful and genuine as she explained why the work we do at the Service League is so important and why she is committed to being a Service League 50/20 Club member. She said “This community is different. You believe in hope, and you see what hope can bring about when it’s shared and people come together.” With that she pledged to do her part in recruiting at least one member to ensure our goal of 100 members by the end of 2014. At the end of the evening, she and everyone left with a limited edition commemorative Service League 50/20 Club mug in one hand, and an enrollment form in the other, anticipating whom they would ask to join the Club!

To our 50/20 Club members who could not attend, we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting the important work we love to do. The next time you are in the neighborhood, please come by the Service League office to pick up your thank you gift. If you are not a yet a member, but would like to become one, please call the Service League at (650) 364-4664 and tell them you want to join the 50/20 Club and someone will confidentially enroll you by phone. It takes only a few moments to make an impact forever.

With Gratitude,

Karen Francone, ED
