On Thursday, May 8, the Service League welcomed 270 guests for its 40th Annual Prayer Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Foster City to celebrate the 75th National Day of Prayer. This year's event was dedicated to the memory of Karen Francone.
Steve Wagstaffe, Board President and District Attorney of San Mateo County, MC'd the event which featured musical performances by the Greg Jacobs Duo featuring Tiffany Austin. Sheriff Binder and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard kickstarted the event by leading the pledge of allegiance. Jeremy Seisa, Religious Services Coordinator, gave the opening invocation and grace.
We welcomed Religious and Spiritual Services volunteers to share positive messages of faith including Pastor David Jahnke (Trinity Presbyterian Church, San Carlos), Pastor Robert Zabala (We Are Church, East Palo Alto), and Bishop Blake Hansen (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Redwood City). Diane, a Hope House graduate, shared her powerful personal journey of finding recovery and the impact of Hope House on her life.
The fourth Dennis Sammut Ambassador Award was presented by Anna Zaretski and Cody Sammut to Sally Mayer in recognition of her tremendous generosity and commitment to the Service League's mission for the last 10 years.
Karen Francone's work with the Service League was recognized by Carol Galvin, Board Vice President. Certificates of recognition were provided to her husband, Kenny Hart, by Supervisor Corzo from the Board of Supervisors, the Office of Congressman Kevin Mullin, and from Clara Boyden, Deputy Director of Alcohol and Other Drug Services on behalf of BHRS.
