The Voices of Recovery San Mateo County Board of Directors established the Steve Kaplan Award in honor of Steve Kaplan, former Director of San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. This award honors his legacy and recognizes individuals who exemplify his vision of a strong, peer-led recovery community. Sydney was recognized for her meaningful contributions supporting a recovery community movement for individuals in San Mateo County.
"I started off at Voices of Recovery fresh out of the Hope House residential treatment program. That's where I learned that I have a passion for helping other people and I got my foundation for working with people and giving back for what was so freely given to me at Voices of Recovery. I want to dedicate my award to Karen Francone. Without Hope House and without Karen, I wouldn't be clean today - who knows where I would be. I could be on the streets or even dead. I also want to acknowledge Janice Matre, Hope House Program Manager. It's a privilege that I get to work with so many people just like me and help people through what I've been through. It's the biggest blessing of my life." - Sydney Reynolds
